Last year I got seriously bit by the tarot bug! Within a year and a half, I accumulated 185 (and growing) tarot, oracle and fortune–telling decks. Even though a lot of them are regrettable purchases (as I didn’t know what decks or art I would connect to at the time), I’ve gathered a solid staple collection that I now wouldn’t be able to live without.

The reason I appreciate tarot (and divination in general) is because it helps us know what’s going in situations, and helps to identify the energies and emotions that we may not be able to label or express.

For those of us that are open, sensitive, and spiritually ascending, we can feel every little energetic blip that occurs and our minds just want to understand: what was that? Why was that? Is there something wrong? The mind indeed wants to know in order to help us feel safe, and that is why the tarot can be a bit addictive.

What I enjoy most is that playing with tarot and oracles is like talking to god directly through art. I couldn’t think of a more beautiful and inspiring way to connect to the universe.

How tarot helps with healing

Tarot is a tool that satisfies the mind because it tries to answer the what, the how, and sometimes the when. But when negative and confusing cards come along, such as the Tower card, Death card or Devil card, a lot of people will worry or even panic that something is going to go terribly wrong.

Over the past year, I’ve grown accustomed to receiving so–called ‘negative’ cards (I’m going through a lot!), but I also learned that there is an additional step after receiving the negative cards. That added next step is: healing.

When a spread is particularly challenging or negative, or so scrambled that it makes no sense at all, I’ve learned that it is a prompt for me to clear the energy. Usually, this energy is quite quick to clear, sometimes taking only a few minutes to do so.

I thought I would show you a real–life example from my personal reading two nights ago. Here is my Guardians of Wisdom deck, which is my go–to deck.

The deck has reversible meanings on either side. My method is to riffle shuffle them, then overhand shuffle them, and allow a few cards to fly out. After I am satisfied with the amount of cards I want, I fling them facedown in midair and have them land in whichever position they happen to land on. And whichever way they land is how I read them.

This is what I got, which, as you can see, was heavily, heavily down and negative:

Suppression: Giving the appearance of happiness while wishing you were somewhere else (9 of Cups reversed)
Regret: Realizing you have feelings of despair for not doing things that you wanted to do (3 of Swords reversed)
Emptiness: The inability to bring forth new life or energy which is blocked within you (Page of Pentacles reversed)
Fainthearted: A person who has power and authority and is fearful of using it (King of Swords reversed)
Riches: You will be receiving large sums of money and material rewards (10 of Pentacles)

Pretty dreadful cards, except for the last one.

But I didn’t sweat it. In fact, I laughed out loud. Because I knew what to do.

I put down the cards, took my trusted and beloved aquamarine crystal, and cleared all the gunk and blocks from my own energy. I always ask Archangel Michael and Jesus to help clear all the old energy that doesn’t serve me anymore, along with old beliefs that are ready to go and psychic ties and cords I’m still connected to.

As I am clearing myself, I feel the old energy flush out of my crown chakra. Sometimes the clearings begin from the base of my spine shooting all the way up through the top of my head. They kind of feel like spinal toilet flushes!

After clearing myself, I walked away and forgot about the cards. An hour later, I came back to my bed where the cards were laying. I took the same cards, arranged them facedown and flung them one by one in midair. Now let’s take a look at the new draw!

• THIS CARD TURNED! Bliss: Being filled with a sense of deep joy, light and laughter (9 of Cups, now upright)
• THIS CARD TURNED! Fruition: You have accomplished what you had set out to do, without compromise (3 of Swords, now upright)
• THIS CARD TURNED! Fertility: A new cycle of life within you is ready to come forth (Page of Pentacles, now upright)
• THIS CARD TURNED! Leader: The ability and desire to enter into a situation and create change (King of Swords, now upright)
• This card stayed upright, yay! Riches: You will be receiving large sums of money and material rewards (10 of Pentacles)

As you can see, simply clearing my energy changed my current situation as well as my outlook, which affects the outcomes of whatever I am seeking to manifest.

It isn’t just like this with this particular deck — I experience this time and again with all tarot decks.

If tarot cards are reading your current energy, it stands to reason that when you change your energy, your cards will change, too.

My personal philosophy is, if you are dealt a negative spread in tarot, don’t sweat it! Life is always fluctuating and the spread only captures a moment in time, which will flow and change. If the spread is about your personal situation and energy, all you need to do is to keep clearing the blocks that the tarot is informing you about, and you will see these shifts in your next draw.

In other words, don’t use tarot as an informant of your fate. Use tarot as a weathervane for what your current energy is. Decide your destiny, then use your healing powers to shift your energy toward what you intend. Your cards will change.

But don’t become obsessed about always getting the good cards though because the tarot will likely show you that you have unhealthy attachments, the need to control, avoidance of pain, and expectations of life in this area. See how this works?

If you are ready for healing, you can purchase a full healing session or a half–hour taster.

This is excerpt totally matches my current view towards tarot or other oracle readings too! Love the weathervane analogy!! Thanks again for the timely reminder and guidance!
